Ae‘ae, or Baccopa Monnieri, is a low-growing ground cover native to Hawai’i, featuring small white to bluish flowers. It provides habitat for native manu (birds) and helps clean waterways by absorbing harmful nutrients. While its historical uses by ancient Hawaiians are unclear, it has been used in India for medicinal purposes for generations. We believed that this plant, featured in a popular Hawaiian quilt design, perfectly symbolizes a mother’s protective, nurturing nature, enveloping her love much like the ‘ae’ae plant does.
