About Ha‘a & Co.

WHAT DOES HA‘A MEAN & REPRESENT?
In ‘ōlelo (Hawaiian language) Ha’a is translated into English as “bent-knee dance” (pre-hula), a Hawaiian chant and dance performed before battle (similar to the Maori Haka and the Tongan sipi tau). Ha‘a represents humbleness, strength, spiritual preparedness & culture.
Ha’a represents the women before us and the women after us-like our scents being shared generation through generation.
HA‘A is also the creator’s daughter’s name, although only 2 years old at the start of business- Ha‘a is like her mom, aunties and grandmas. Courageous, independent, proud, yet, gentle, loving and forgiving.
OUR MISSION
Haʻa & Co. is more than just a fragrance line, all products are hand poured locally on Kaua‘i in small batches using clean and quality ingredients. This is to ensure we continue to serve the community that raised us and prioritize sustainable practices to cultivate a greater future for our keiki (children). We also uplift and empower indigenous women by providing authentic fragrances to honor their culture and upbringing.
ABOUT THE CREATOR
My name is Maliana Hamada, I am half Japanese, Tongan and Samoan. I was born raised on the Garden island, Kaua‘i and am a proud mother of two. Asae, 11 and Ha‘a, 3.
I started Ha'a & Co. as sincere Mother's day gifts for my mom and aunties. We spent a lot of time together during covid and they would share stories of their childhood; 6 full Japanese girls running around rural Kaua'i, laughing, grumbling and playing. I loved envisioning that and wanted to interpret it into a gift. After much research and testing,
Nostlagic Scents of Hawai'i by: Ha'a & Co. was born.
I am grateful for all the stories of nostalgia shared with me, from family, friends and people I’ve just met- seeing their faces light up from one of our scents is truly priceless.
Our company started with loved ones in mind and we hope to share that same aloha and nostalgia with your 'ohana.
Mahalo. Malo'aupito. Arigato Gozaimasu. Thank you for trusting us with your nostalgia.
